Commissioning
Commissioning a portrait is usually a new experience for many and can feel like a bit of a leap of faith into the unknown! But please do not worry! I am here to help and guide you from first contact right through to the finish.
Get in touch, even if it is just for a chat about any project ideas you may have, a quote or how the process works. There is no obligation, I am more than happy to help.
If you do decide to take things further, that's great. We can then start talking about your thoughts, composition, size or layout of your commission. It is important for me that your portrait is tailored to how you would want it to look.
Even though I usually work with one main image (digital). Of course, other images will be used too. Starting with a main reference image additional Images are used, sorted, swapped or even changed so that a 'feel' can be taken on how best we can compose your portrait. This initially may take time and at these early stages a number of conversations on the telephone or e-mail will ensue. But all of this is perfectly normal!
Only after you are completely happy; your part in the process is then done the rest is down to me! During the drawing process significant milestones will be reached. At these important landmarks I shall give you an update on how your picture is getting on. It goes without saying too that at any stage of the process, you are more than welcome to get in touch with me regarding any aspect of the progress of your portrait.
My wish is for this journey to be an enjoyable one for you, with the sole intention of producing a portrait that you would be proud to own.
Finally, If you decide to go ahead, may I suggest that you are mindful of a completion date. If you have a specific date in mind. I am more than happy to have a conversation on how best I could fit this in for you so that together deadlines are always met.
'Things to think about'
When commissioning your drawing, may I ask you to think about the few points listed below on the image/s you have in mind.

'Your Image'
In order to produce a high quality portrait drawing it is essential that I work from the best possible image. Whilst I am aware that it is not always possible to carry out your own photoshoot. However, if you are able to take the photographs yourself then please try and follow these steps;
1. Try and take 10-20 images of the subject. You can delete the ones you don’t like.
2. Take the photo at the subject’s level. Capturing those all important features and character. Gaining the essence of them in everyday life is how we like to see them.
3. Using a mobile phone camera.
· Please don’t “pinch out”. This actually reduces the quality of the image and makes it difficult to pick out those small details that make all the difference to the final piece.
· Please avoid screenshots and photos of photos.
· Please avoid any resizing of images.
· If you are able, please send me the original digital image. This would always be best.
4. Working from hard copy photographs sometimes may not be suitable. It this case a high resolution scan could be the way forward.

'Natural Lighting for Natural Values'
If you can, can I encourage you to take your photos in natural light but try and avoid direct sunlight as this will project heavy shadows.
Natural light will bring out the best tonal qualities of your image and will convey a more balanced and realistic final portrait.
