Portrait Artist
Welcome to my website!

As a pencil portrait artist based in Glossop nestled in the picturesque Peak District; surrounded by breathtaking scenery and vibrant communities. Finding artistic inspiration to create fine art portraits, is never too far away.

Drawing has been my passion from an early age and having the opportunity to share this passion with others gives me an enormous amount of pleasure.
Working solely from high-quality digital images which you provide. I transform these images into original pieces of fine art that you and your family can enjoy for many years to come. So it goes without saying, that getting that perfect portrait and capturing the essence of what is to be drawn is as important to me as it would be for you.

Although I take commissions from clients throughout the UK. The actual thought of asking someone to undertake a commission can seem a little bit of a leap of faith. But rest assured, you will be guided through the journey from start to finish, making sure that at every step that you not only understand but that you are comfortable and happy with the venture to be undertaken.

Please do take a look at my gallery and if you like what you see do not hesitate to get in touch without any obligation payment or commitment.
I am friendly, professional and always open to give advice on any future project you may have too.
The 'Way' of the pencil
My preferred tools of use are graphite, pastel and coloured pencils and whilst specializing in creating lifelike representations of people, pets and wildlife. Technique is the all important part in producing a portrait that can be at one end mediocre or at the other end producing a portrait that your signature next to it states your worth as an artist. Layering and utilising each pencil stroke to enhance those fantastic tones of light and value from each drawing, allow that wonderful illusion of realism to bring out the unique character of the subject.

The work that I do never uses any blending stumps or burnishing techniques. And I only use the finest drawing paper and pencils. Bringing out those fantastic features of the paper is so important to my work. Those tiny peaks and troughs of the paper can represent beautifully the texture of natural skin or show depth and tonal variances of fur which is so important for the perfect fine art portrait.
I only use the finest drawing paper and pencils. If you are interested and would like me to produce a piece of art personalised for you or maybe a gift for someone else then please get in touch.

PENCIL PORTRAITS

PASTEL & COLOURED PENCIL PORTRAITS
If you do decide to take things further, that's great. We can then start talking about your thoughts, composition, size or layout of your commission. It is important for me that your portrait is tailored to how you would want it to look.Even though I usually work with one main image (digital). Of course, other images will be used too.
Starting with a main reference image additional Images are used, sorted, swapped or even changed so that a 'feel' can be taken on how best we can compose your portrait. This initially may take time and at these early stages a number of conversations on the telephone or e-mail will ensue. But all of this is perfectly normal!
